Prosecutors say a New Hampshire man obsessed with getting a Harley Davidson motorcycle assumed his landlord's identity in an effort to steal his new pickup truck to trade it in for the bike, then killed him. But the man's lawyer says he killed the landlord in self-defense.
The trial of 50-year-old Paul McDonald got under way Monday with the visit by jurors to the Danville home where Richard Wilcox was killed in June 2008.
Wilcox was found dead in the basement from wounds authorities said were caused by a hammer or axe.
McDonald claims he acted in self-defense and beat Wilcox after waking up to find Wilcox performing oral sex on him.
After Wilcox was killed, McDonald drove to Hubbardton, Vt., where he was arrested a week later.
